I brought home a second cat. (What was I thinking?)
Kashka is not happy about this. (She’s the hisser.)
any tips/suggestions greatly appreciated!

Pictures??? I emailed my tips. Jeanne’s the real pro at this.
Shrug; we forced our two to hang out together and they got used to each other. We brought Murrie in and Stefano hissed at her, but then we played with both of them, and they’re best of friends. They play-fight together, they tolerate sitting close to one another, and when it gets REALLY cold, they sit butt-to-butt to keep warm.
Dale Harriet over at “Cats and Books and Sticks” had a couple of quite lengthy blog posts about introducing new cats a few days ago. Something about putting them in different rooms for a couple of days and then opening the door a bit etc. You might want to check it out! Good luck!
I use some combination of the following:
1) Keep them separate and sniffing each other under a door for awhile. (Which you should do anyway until you get the new cat in for a vet check and Feleuk test)
2) Bring something new cat has been sleeping on out of the room so Kashka can sniff. Do the same for new cat.
3) Keep the new guy locked up at night, so Kashka gets to have you alone at night.
3) Douse the new guy in catnip.
Eventually they’ll learn to get along, or they won’t.
At the Cornell Vet School Clinic, I learned about the N + 1 theory of litter boxes. N=number of cats. And make sure no one cat can prevent access to all litter boxes at one time. (We had our down in a basement, and the macho guy would sit on the stairs and keep the poor old lady from getting down there. Much better when one went up in the bathroom on the second floor.)
Otherwise, just give it some time and hope for the best.
Well, sorry this reply is so late, but I see someone did what we did when we found ourselves with 2 cats ~ just put them together and let them figure it out. I have to say, though that putting a cat with 2 dogs was much easier. :)
