… Chris’ pressing question…
yes, I found my sock knotes. and this sock is fast approaching completion. woohoo! I think I need to do 5 more (4-round) repeats to be where I stopped for the toes on sock 1. I still need to figure out if I want to add 1 or 2 more to make it long enough, and then I’ll need to frog the first sock’s toe and make it match. but it looks like I’ll have no problem getting them done in time. (getting them mailed might be a different story…)
in answer to Rina’s question: for the Tasha bag, I’m using Rowan Denim, which is what was used in the pattern.
this weekend I am joining two other MN Knittyheads and we’re carpooling down to Lake Geneva WI for a weekend of camping and knitting. there is talk of indigo dyeing and spinning as well. I haven’t started packing yet. I haven’t thought much about what knitting to pack yet either. pretty sure Tasha will be packed, as well as the River-what’s-it socks started last month. dad’s gloves. maybe I’ll start Amelia’s dress. (I’ll have to wind the yarn. ooh, but I get XP for that. bonus! excuse me while I embrace my inner geek.)
in other news… Eli (my nephew, though he’s quite cute and I’m tempted to steal him from my sister) is going to be 2 in a week and a bit. maybe I should get back to work on Grrr….

I’ve noticed the wiki birthday meme going around blogland, and decided to wait til my birthday to actually post it.
What you do:
1) Go to Wikipedia
2) In the search box, type your birth month and day but not the year.
3) List three events that happened on your birthday
4) List two important birthdays and one death
5) One holiday or observance (if any)
6) Tag 5 other bloggers to complete
Three events:
1794 - Maximilien Robespierre is guillotined in front of a cheering crowd, for sending thousands of others to a similar fate during the French Revolution.
1866 - The Metric Act of 1866 becomes law and legalizes the standardization of weights and measures in the United States.
1945 - A US Army B-25 bomber accidentally crashes into the 79th floor of the Empire State Building killing 14 injuring 26.
Two Birthdays:
1866 - Beatrix Potter, English author (d. 1943)
1929 - Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, First Lady of the United States (d. 1994)
One death:
1750 - Johann Sebastian Bach, German composer (b. 1685)
One holiday or observance:
Faroe Islands - Ólavsøka Eve
(of course, I picked the one that’s closest to knitting)
Five tags:
by now, I figure most people that wanted to do this will have done it. that or they don’t generally do memes. so it seems pointless to make a list. if you haven’t done this yet, consider yourself tagged.

I’m still knitting my sockapalooza socks. The end is in sight though. I finished the heel flap of sock #2 on the bus last night, and then had to put it on pause cuz I lost my notes on what I did for the heel of the first one. good thing I had the Tasha bag with me - I managed to get a few more rows done on the strap.

so I decided to skip the midnight parties. I started a new knitting project instead (more on that later).
Saturday, I continued the new knitting project then headed to the library. I did not win a copy there, so onward to the land of shopping. (sidenote: the library had the local ‘royalty’ there to help out. let me just say that seeing a bunch of pageant girls in tiaras with Harry glasses and lightning scars was a bit weird. cute, but weird.) I needed gas and bread, and we were a bit concerned about the state of the checking account, so I hit Sammy’s club, where we could put it on credit. and they had Harry, so I got it there. then I decided to do a bit of yarn shopping.
and as I was heading home (around 2pm. no I had not eaten lunch yet, I figured I’d be home soon enough.), I attempted to bypass a knot of interstate traffic and encountered traffic on the regular roads. and my car did not stop as quickly as the guy ahead of me and I flippin’ rear-ended him. apparently, this was the 4th time he’d been rearended (what does that say about his driving? hmm. me, I haven’t hit anyone since about 6 months after I got my license a good 10-odd years ago). did I mention I forgot my cellphone? figures. so I waited at a nearby fast food place for dh to pick me up. thankfully, I had both the new Harry Potter book and my sockapalooza sock with me, so I wouldn’t be eternally bored while we went back to what he was doing (running an RPG, if you must know).
Sunday was spent reading, for the most part. with frequent interruptions from dh. we went to see Ratatouille last night, but he wouldn’t let me read in the car (grr! but I got over it). and then I finished the book on the bus in to work this morning.
now, we can return to our regularly scheduled sock knitting.
(oh, and no, I wasn’t hurt, neither were the people in the other car.)

I finished the first sock the other day. I put it on my foot (my pal has eerily similar foot measurements). I’ve decided it’s too tight (and since her given length measurement is a smidge longer than mine, I’m fairly certain she’d think it too tight as well). so I need to frog the toe back, and a few pattern repeats and then rework the toe. but I’m not in the mood for that right now. (it’s upsetting, actually. this sock was full of perfect coincidences, one of which was that it was *this close* to finishing at the end of the pattern repeat and at exactly 50g.) so this morning, I started sock #2. I’m nearly finished with the ribbing.
Harry Potter… I have no idea what I’m going to do about the book. I reserved it online for pick-up at a nearby Borders last week. I have no idea what the deal at Borders is (ok, so they’re having a “Ball” starting at 9:30pm and then you can get your book at midnight. but beyond that, I don’t if there’s wristbands involved or anything). I dropped my name into a box at the not-so-local library for a HP7 drawing. but the drawing isn’t until 11am tomorrow and you need to be present to win (there’s also an HP ice cream social or something going on too - again, fuzzy on the details). then, I discovered that the local WallyWorld will have it at midnight, and for less than Borders (of course it’s cheaper, it’s WallyWorld.). WallyWorld is the closest to home. the library is between home and Borders. Borders has two LYS nearby, but would I really want to hit the LYS when I have my HP book? the fact that gas is hovering around $3/gallon doesn’t help (it makes me think ’stay close to home’. on the other hand, I could get it at Sam’s which is near Borders and generally a bit less). unfortunately, to my knowledge, the slightly-bigger-than-a-speck town I live in doesn’t have a bookstore that I’m aware of. I wonder if Pamida will have the book (their flyer didn’t say much about it). maybe I should call them…
in other news, I really want to start a new pair of socks. for me. back in, what was it, April? May? when Nancy and I wandered down to St Peter, I picked up the green/black koigu (P532) (you can see the color here - click on their color viewer. it’s pretty close.). I’ve since picked up some odds and ends of solid greens and black from the taste of koigu bin at Needlework Unlimited. and a couple weeks ago, the pattern came to me: Nagini. now, to figure out what size foot the pattern is written for and figure out how to upsize it to fit my foot/gauge.
