warning, this is a photo heavy post.
So, Saturday, I headed out to meet my friends from dance Kim and her daughter Emilea at the local sheep fest. Emilea is a big sheep fan, but she hasn’t yet been bitten by any of the fibercraft bugs. the day was punctuated with many shrieks of SHEEP! Kim was a diehard crocheter (why use two needles when one hook is just fine), but recently has taken up knitting and has a fondness at the moment for felted bags. (though I think she said she plans to start a sweater soon.) and I also planned to meet up with Nancy & Rina.
I quickly found Kim & Em in the first building of vendors that I went in. and a bit of shopping later, I ran into Nancy & Rina. Kim made the first purchase of the day - some buttons and other bits & bobs. Then it was Em’s turn. She couldn’t resist the pottery. (If I could make a decision, I wouldn’t have been able to resist either.)
Kim was on a mission to find the ‘right’ shade of green roving to do some needle felting on one of her felted bags. and she found it. but I forget which vendor it was. but they had some other gorgeous merinos, and I’m really wanting the black with colored bits that they had. I’ll have to see if she got a card.
then it was time for a break. we ran into Nancy & Rina again at the sheep races sheep dog demos. This was the only time I took pics, and to save your sanity (I don’t think you want to see THAT many pics of sheep bums) this is only a sampling of them.

and they’re off…

they’re coming down the straight away…

oh, wait… this isn’t a race
after that, we headed to lunch. (yes, I had a lambburger. and fried cheese curds. mmmm cheese curds.) and then back to shopping. towards the end of the day, we encountered the booth of Handspun by Stefania. They had some gorgeous spindles that sucked us in. I ended up purchasing one from Fox Den Fiber Arts (link not working at the moment) - as an Irish dancer, how could I not? Kim also got one. and I got some fiber too. Here’s mine:

MY SPINDLE! (there’s a bit of green in the design, but it doesn’t show up much here)

my feeble attempts at spinning - as of Monday

coopworth dyed with indigo & osage
then we wandered across the aisle to watch some spinners in action. one of them gave us her info so we could get private lessons on how to use our new spindles. and I ended the day with a purchase of some Lorna’s Laces sportweight sock yarn in Black Purl. I can’t wait to knit this up!

I love the colors at the lighter end.
it was a fun weekend!
oh, and in parting, a pic of Kashka:

Yet another person I didn’t run into out there!! Pretty spindle. And you bought my favorite colorway of LL! Oh, Kashka, what a gorgeous goofball you are. :)
Hey and Yep, that’s the same vendor that Rina got her spindle and roving from. Who could resist that gentleman and his demonstrations and patience in answering questions…I did, though…somehow…Maybe I’ll succumb next year.
I almost bought that exact colorway of Lorna’s Laces on my way out but had already bought so much stuff…I regret it though! Enjoy yours. I vow to pick some up next time I see it. Can’t wait to see the socks you knit from it!
Cristy, that’s the same spindle that I got except mine is in pink.
Looks like a great time! That spindle is gorgeous, and Kashka is so cute!
