WIP it. WIP it good.

(heh. can you tell what decade I grew up in?)

2005 WIPs
Here we have the WIPs started in 2005:
* red toe-up socks (one sock has a bit of the cuff started, the other is in the middle of the short row heel redo)
* a soap bag - just needs a cord to cinch it closed
* Mother Bear #2 - still needs an arm and a face
* The Sweater Workshop “Thing” - this is probably a perma-WIP
* modified mini-skull tote - got too tangled. I’m not sure why I’m so concerned with keeping the colors as continuous as possible - it’s going to get felted.

2006 WIPs
The 2006 WIPs:
* Fox & Geese mittens in purple & white - for Lilin. I’m at the point of increasing for the thumb.
* Dad’s xmas gloves - all that’s needed are one pinky finger and two thumbs
* Tasha bag
* placemat from sari silk
* lacy snowflake (it’s the tiny speck of white by the addi dpns)

2007 WIPs
* CTH glitz socks
* the start of some fuzzy feet (the blue wools)
* the test-knit sock - I have a toe! (and it fits! shocking)
* Dulaan hat #1 - needs a cuff. and maybe a pompom
* felted penguin

Swatches
The Swatches that Mock me:
* blue KP Wool - a sweater of some sort. would help if I remembered what size needles I used on the swatch.
* carmel Dale Svale - to be a tank (think it was Calla from MagKnits last year). gauge was a bit off.
* sock yarn ribbing swatch - I was thinking of making gloves with it at the time.
* brown sock yarn - swatching for dh’s socks
* fushia CE Princess - possibly my Wicked sweater. again, gauge problems.

the result of this is that it feels like I have a lot less WIPs then I think I do. maybe cuz in my head, the list includes all the things I have yarn for but haven’t done much with yet. or maybe finishing and frogging things for the UFO Challenge has helped. (March’s project was my “Olympic” legwarmers. They are now frogged. frogging frozen mohair isn’t nearly as bad as ‘dry’ mohair. still a pain though.)

so, what to choose for April’s UFO project… I’m leaning towards one of the bags - either Tasha or the felted mini-skull.

Tomorrow, I’ll share the stash. Assuming I can find a WIFI zone that’s open.

Yes, once again I am participating in Flash Your Stash. I started taking pics last night (stash overall and the needles) and got overwhelmed at the thought of the yarn & WIPs (more the WIPs), so I took a break. We’ll do that tonight. I’m also hoping to get the WIPs out for WIP it Out the day before.

Stay tuned.

Oh, and if anyone is doing dinner or something pre-Harlot and wouldn’t mind another person joining them, let me know. ;)

we’re all about the socks today.

could it be I’ve stumbled on the pattern? (if so, this is great, cuz I was having a damned hard time trying to figure out what my booth-bought socks were doing.) here. see those gorgeous pink poodle sock skirt socks? yeah. I need to make them. next. well maybe two pairs from now. (I told dh his socks would be next in line. and then I started a new pair. oops. so two pairs from now.)

the socks I started last night are a pattern that I’m test knitting for Rae, so I’m not sure how much of them you’ll be seeing. I couldn’t decide which yarn to use (my sock stash is severely lacking in solid colors) so went with some KnitPicks Bare, which I’ll probably dye after the socks are knit. (it’s hard to dye the yarn when you’ve decided you must knit NOW at 10pm.) anywho, I’m making reasonable progress on the toe - it’s a short-row toe, which I haven’t done before, which is cool. I think I like it better than the figure-8 toe that the red toe-ups have. I’m sure it’ll go much better once I remember how to pick up the wraps. (you’d think after doing 2 1/2 short-row heels on the red pair, I’d remember). I’m using a size 2 KP circ, but haven’t checked the gauge yet.

(on a side note, winding a hank of KP Bare is a huge pain in the arse. I couldn’t get it to tension right as I was winding so some parts are really tight and others are ‘normal’. and both my arms are sore, cuz I was trying to spin the swift while winding the ball in an attempt to keep it from being too tight. ah, well. if I had to join a million smaller balls in, I’d be complaining about that ;) )

there’s a hole in the wall…

so yesterday, I get a call from dh - come home as soon as you can, the cat’s trapped in the wall which wall? the mystery wall. WTF!?!?!

the mystery wall… if you are looking at the outside of the house, there’s a spot where the wall juts out a wee bit. inside the house, the wall is flat. we’ve been joking a bit about what might be behind the wall. gold? dead bodies? a portal to another world?

Kashka has yet to divulge the secrets of how she got into there. my guess - she wandered into the bedroom closet, managed to open the door into the crawlspace (which, incidentally, is over the mystery wall), found a hole, and fell/crawled down. dh thinks this is patently impossible, as there was a board propped against the crawlspace door to keep it closed (and her out, should someone be foolish enough to leave the closet door open). me, I think it’s possible. when we first moved in, she managed to open the cupboards in the bathroom and trap herself inside. the board leaning on the door isn’t that heavy. she’s small. I’m pretty certain she could pull it off without disrupting the board completely.

so anywho, we had to bash a hole in the wall to try and get her out. she was having none of it - she kept looking up as if to say - that hole in the ceiling is how I got in, and I’m going to figure out how to get back out. despite the fact that she can see me (well, my head at least) sticking into the space between the walls. after many attempts (this took, oh, a good hour), we managed to use the end of a curtain rod to pull her towards the hole and get her out.

so now, there’s a hole in the wall. and a cat living in the bathroom until we can get the hole repaired. dh isn’t too pleased with her. she’s not too pleased with being trapped in the bathroom. (despite the fact that if I’m in there without her, she’ll be pawing at the door and sticking her paw under the door in an attempt to get in.) no worries - she has most of her kitty comforts in there (litter box, food, water, kitty condo, scratching box. I suppose she could use a toy.) we kept her in there while moving in so she wouldn’t escape. it’s ‘her’ bathroom.

continuing with the gloves

I’m getting rather tired of finger-city here. the end is in site though. glove #1 now has 3 and a half fingers and glove #2 has 2 fingers.

I really want to work on some socks (I’m torn between the never ending pair and a new pair. both are red, coincidentally. good thing I’m not doing Project Spectrum.), but I really want to get the gloves done first, which isn’t going as fast as I’d hoped since my knitting-at-home mojo has gotten lost.

oh, and a long-lost-WIP made an appearance Monday night while watching Under a Tuscan Sun. I pulled out the Tasha bag, since it was simple back and forth stockinette - should be easy mindless movie knitting, right? except I’ve got both of the sides on the needle at the same time (much like doing two sleeves at the same time) so they come out the same length. and well, I couldn’t remember when I needed to turn it or not, so I didn’t get very far. I’m thinking I need to put some safety pins on the ends to serve as ‘bumpers’ so I know when it’s time to turn around and go back.
