went to the library on the way out last night to grab a few books I had reserved (Beyond Stitch & Bitch, which is some essays that I read completely on the bus ride this morning and the Itty Bitty Hats book which has a couple that I want to knit). poked into the bookstore and beelined it to the crafty shelves. most times there’s not much, but I’ve found a few treasures. Yesterday, I found Nicky Epstein’s Knit Hats book (an old library edition for $1. in my haste to get back to the bus stop I didn’t preview it til on the bus - it’s missing quite a few pages. stupid people.) and Alice Starmore’s The Celtic Collection (hardcover and in seemingly excellent condition. not a library copy either, so no marks) for a mere $5. well, I’ve borrowed it from the library before, and wasn’t really thrilled with more than 1 or 2 patterns, but hey, who can pass that up for $5?

so, $6+tax later, I’m back on the bus, happily flipping thru the Hat book when I discover the missing pages. but I did find one pattern that I REALLY want to make - I think it’s called St Pat’s Blarney. so not a complete loss there.

survived dance class (feis coming up in less than 10 days, so lots of drilling on our steps) and headed back to Minneapolis to search out some “OMG Pink” dye. I don’t think I found one of OMG intensity, but I think it’ll go well with the blue & purple I have at home that I’ll be pairing it with. also ordered the Knit Picks superwash worsted for this little dying adventure. hopefully all goes well so I can resume holiday knitting.

Yarn Shop Hop

Seven of the LYS here are having a Knitting Shop Hop/Treasure Hunt.
Info in PDF format here.
Mapquest has a handy feature now that lets you put in up to 10 addresses (and you can move things around to find the best order too). I’d link to it, but that feature isn’t available yet.

is my speedometer broken?

so driving home from work last night, I notice in my mirror that there’s a Krispy Kreme truck behind me. my cruise is set at 74mph (which isn’t that much over the speed limit I was in. shush. I’m sure you do your share of driving ‘just over’ the limit too.) anywho, slowly I notice that said KK truck is passing me. it gets in front of me. I read one of the little caution blurbs on it’s back - “Caution. This vehicle’s maximum speed is 62mph.”

first off, why such an odd top speed? 62? what’s up with that? designed to be the vehicle that just can’t quite make the speed limit and tick off the rest of the world driving at 65 or slightly faster?

second off, if it’s max speed is 62, why is it passing me, instead of spontaneously combusting from the excessive speed?

I just don’t get it.
(and have decided I really need a camera in my car for moments such as this.)

I need to leave to catch my bus, otherwise I’d include all the pics here.
Most of them are over in the gallery.

here’s me and Stephanie:
Stephanie Pearl-McPhee and me
Thanks to Stephania for jumping the chairs and taking the pic for me.

Sidenote: I normally wear things that blend in - aka neutrals or blues. In my haste to get to work ontime and still get everything needed for the weekend into my car, I completely forgot that a) I froze on the way to work the previous day and therefore b) I should take a sweatshirt or jacket with me. thankfully, our marketing genius at work ordered all of us these lovely pink hoodies. which most of us - me included - leave at work and wear when the AC gets to be a bit much. so with great forethought, I took that with me on my way out of work. if I could actually get a sweater for myself beyond the I-have-the-pattern-and-yarn stage, I might have taken/worn that. but alas, knitting for myself never/rarely happens. perhaps that should be my new years resolution next year). on the plus side (is it a plus side?), it makes it rather easy to find me in other people’s pics.

in other news, I’ve learned I should listen to my inner knitter and not 5 & 6 year olds. more on that tomorrow.
