heel troubles & a challenge

Comments Off

ok, so last night I was working the heel flap and got confused - looked like a potential error, but seeing as I’d never knit this sort of heel before wasn’t sure. turns out I was correct. there’s actually a few errors.

you can see some of the corrections here. the calendar’s site did not have them when I checked (but they do have other erratta). I had also emailed the designer and she was kind enough to send me a corrected pattern. She also has many other lovely sock patterns.

also, I’ve decided to take on the challenge that Laura has. (had I not had a heel panic, I’d probably have missed this.) the challenge: basically, no yarn buying for three months. dh is a bit concerned about the yarn to actual knitting ratio. ok. I can do this. My KnitPicks order was placed on the 31st, so it won’t count. I think I bought some yarn on the weekend, so I’ll be down a day or two. future yarn buys consist of yarn for Calla and the continued piecemeal purchasing of the yarn for the blue sweater from KnitSimple. there’s also Yarnover at month’s end, and the MN Wool Fest in May. I’ll have to coordinate my shopping to those particular days, perhaps. anywho, should be fun, and hopefully keep my purchasing in check.

birthday knitting

birthday knitting is making pretty good progress. I knit on the bus home last night, and managed to do something weird on a bead row (not sure if made an accidental yarn over or didn’t finish the stitch). so I tried fixing the stitch and gave up and ripped the needles out and tried to get back to the row before the beads. (note: frogging/picking up free stitches on beads & lace is not a fun thing to do. I don’t recommend my method). managed to get it put back on, but the stitches were rather twisted and split and not completely picked up, so I knit an extra row right before the beads (note to self, remember this for the second one). reknit the bead row this morning on the bus, and it went fine. got to the 3rd needle on the 2nd row of beading and realized I’d made the same mistake - except this time I was checking the needles before continuing so I could fix things right away. so all is good, and I made it about a third of the way into the lace. 5 1/2 more rows of lace and I get to start the foot. this should be an adventure - my first pair of top down socks (I should go read the pattern so I know what sort of heel I’m getting myself into).

ok, now for the preview… this was after 3 repeats on the cuff last night, just before that bottom row of beads out.

the color is to be a surprise, hence the black & white. I think it looks kind of cool.

anywho, so I’m about to leave work, and I knit a bit during lunch. just have the last two lacy rows and then I get to start the heel. woohoo! hopefully it doesn’t go too bad.

next project chosen (or so I think)

so, despite having a good sized queue of projects both on the needles and on the ‘must make it next’ list, I’ve decided that, once I get the yarn, I must make Calla from the new MagKnits.
