half-way done…

progress is going ok so far. I’m sort of making it up as I go along. legwarmer one is as complete as it’s going to be for a while - I ran out of colored yarn and I’m not sure how much black there will be for the ribbing at the ankle. so it’s on hold until I finish #2 and can divide up the yarn.

I started the ribbing on #2 last night. didn’t get too far though. *sigh* that’s ok though, cuz my weekend is less busy than last. I can make up the lost knitting time, right? (and it should also go quicker, since I realized #1 is too big. nothing a little elastic can’t fix, I hope. if that fails, we’ll frog and fix. after it’s completed and I get my gold. ;) assuming I finish #2 and get the gold, that is.)

maybe I should change events…

this is not knitting related so much… but I’m thinking my Olympics challenge should be changed to getting the bills to be paid at work well, paid. but I can’t. because they keep giving me huge stacks of checks towrite to clients (yay settlements). and every time a new collection of bills comes in, I feel I should bust out into a Highland Jig (see the gallery at dancers-tale.com if you’ve never seen this danced). yes, every time someone drops off a bill, the fists start flying behind my cubby wall. at all of “Thing”’s relatives. (you know, Thing. of Addams Family fame. because the bills are delivered by hands only now. I rarely see a body attached to said hand.) so, it’s now Friday, I’ve paid some bills during the week, but seriously, the stack yet to be paid will FILL one of those little stacking desk trays. (one tray. but it’s to the top and bumping into the tray stacked above. and there are more to come! argh!) so, once I finish lunch, the goal is to make half the pile disappear before I leave. I think that’s doable. I just hate to see how many bills come in over the weekend to take their place.

(oh, and Olympic knitting is stalled at the moment. I did something stupid while trying to do the 3×3 ribbing row and talking about dance steps at the same time. I need to fix that tonight and continue on. and I’ll be lucky if I’m 25% finished by the end of tonight. which isn’t good, since this is nearly the halfway point of the Olympics. I should be half done by now, right?)

goal for this weekend tonight: get the computer set up and get pics off the camera. I’m going to the Scottish Ramble to watch the Highland dance competition tomorrow and need all available camera memory. later this weekend goal: get pics sized for blog and bring them with so I can post them on Monday.

Let the knitting games begin…

I’ve decided to resurrect the mohair legwarmers that had been previously banished to the frog pond. I’m using the black for the ribbing and the purple/pink for the main part. and I’ve chosen the pattern ‘pretty little cables’ from this book. (after vetoing one from the perpetual calendar).

did I train for the event? um, no, not really. I spent most of the opening ceremonies swatching. decided I didn’t like the first stitch pattern I picked out (mainly cuz the directions were crap and I don’t think things lined up properly from one row to the next. let me just say, I hate directions that tell you to do a 9 stitch thing between the ** and then tell you how to finish the last 4 sts that overlap with those *9 sts*). So I swatched pattern #2 - and it really didn’t show up very well in the black mohair yarn, but I think it’ll show up better in the purple/pink yarn. so I’m sticking with it. (and even if no one else can see the fine details, I’ll know they’re there and be proud of the ‘pretty little cables’ pattern.) after swatching, I did math (every knitters favorite part, right?!) to figure out how many stitches would need to be cast on to work the pattern and have it fit. here’s hoping my calculations come out right.

I worked about 10 rows of the ribbing on Saturday & Sunday (I would have liked to knit more on Sunday, but the day was spent at St Pat’s shows rehearsals and then my regular dance class. and by the time Grey’s Anatomy came on, I was too tired to knit). I finished two more rows of ribbing and the first round of pattern on the bus ride to work this morning. more knitting to come… (and pictures, once I get my computer put back together and bring them with me so they can be posted.)

(and I did not manage to finish the hat yet. soon. very soon. and then I’ll get it in the mail. hopefully before his birthday in April.)

I’m knitting again… and I’m going to be an Olympian!

I was in a bit of a knit funk. I’m starting to get out of it though.

I finally finished stripe 19 (of 19, per pattern) on dh’s HP scarf last week. He’s not a fan of it though (too thick for his liking). ah, well… so, anyone want to buy a HP (first movie style) scarf? or trade it for books/yarn/something?

I also started working on the xmas hat for my BIL again during the Super Bowl. (I was waiting for Grey’s Anatomy to come on.) I had just started the third wedge when I picked it up, I’m now a bit into the 4th wedge - just 1 1/2 wedges to go! I’m hoping it’ll be done by the Opening Ceremonies.

so, yeah… I joined the Yarn Harlot’s Knitting Olympics yesterday. I must be crazy. This gives me what, 2 days to figure out a project that will be challenging AND finishable in 16 days!? Yikes! I’m thinking of joining one of the teams, but I’m torn… There’s team Knitty, the Irish team, the US team(s), the MN team, the WI team, one of the food teams (chocolate or cheese, most likely), one of the project specific teams (of course, I’d have to pick a project first…), the undecided Librans (I have a Libra ascendant - that’s gotta count for something!), team DPNs (they are handy for poking, no?). How does one decide? (hmm… maybe team libra is a good choice!)

In preparation for said Olympics, I have unpacked my yarn. I bought this at Pamida Monday night and put it together. Last night I finished unpacking all my yarn into it. (Well, at least all the yarn that I’ve found. There might be a few bits of it still acting as packing material somewhere). It’s pretty much full. I like it.

Now, what project do I want to knit? I’m thinking something with cables. And I know I can whip up a hat in a few days to a week, so I don’t want to go too much bigger than that, project wise. I’m thinking legwarmers, socks, a hat, or something else. I’m limiting myself to stash yarn (that should make it challenging!). I’m so undecided. and the more I think about it, the socks scare me, cuz it took me bloody forever to get the foot of my sock done for the class I took - and that was three weeks. for a foot! argh!
