forgot to mention… today I took a mini-LYS tour around the cities. I thought I was all prepared: I had my map of the stores with addresses listed, made sure they were all open today, etc. get in the car to head out, and realize I have no idea how to get to one of the suburbs (the mini-map didn’t print very well). so I hit four of the ones closest to me: Brennan’s, Clickety Sticks, Creative Fibers, and Needlework Unlimited. (I think the store names are right.)
ooh, I’m having trouble resisting some of those yarns! a couple of the stores had sequin ‘yarn’ - ok, it’s not real yarn, more of an accent to be knitted with yarn. but yeah, I’m def a sparkle addict (as are most Irish dancers).
I also saw a really pretty eyelash-y yarn. I forget the brand or what-not, but the color’s name was something like ‘Straw to Gold’. ooh, I want that.
a couple of the stores seemed to have a great stock of sock yarns, so I’m really excited to go back. and Needlework has the Pep Blocco for the wooly bear scarf my sister wants. it’s a bit pricey, but I found a free pattern for a Very long fuzzy scarf, so maybe I’ll go the long-and-narrow route. hopefully the stripes will still look ok.
I would like to comment though, on the seeming lack of purple in a lot of the yarns I liked. is it that purple’s not a popular yarn color, or is it so popular that it’s sold out?

Well, here’s a shocker. lol! I think I’ll take it again in the future to see how I progress. =)

You appear to be a Knitting Novice. You might be just taking up the hobby and still feel a bit intimidated by the whole process. You might not know a purl from a knit stitch and those cryptic codes that others call “patterns” seem pretty intimidating, but it’s something you’ve been meaning to learn and you are having fun trying.

I finished Amelia’s scarf today.
Measurements:Width: 4″-4 1/2″
Length: approx. 46″ plus 3 1/2″ fringe on either end.
Yarn: Sugar ‘n Cream cotton in “Pretty Pastels”
Needles: Size 7
This was my first time binding off… it went pretty well. I thought it was kinda fun, even though it was a bit ackward getting the stitch over the other one.

blogger and I aren’t getting along when it comes to rebuilding… so the page may be going through a bit of a redesign in hopes of fixing it. maybe some PHP will do the trick - update the sidebar without updating the blog template… hopefully the webhost cooperates… maybe I should test that… eh, it’s getting late, we’ll do it tomorrow.
in other news, I’ve joined my first knitting webring. whee! (hence the rebuild issues…)

My first scarf for my niece Amelia is almost finished. I measured it today, and it’s at 42″. One of the patterns I have for a kid’s sized scarf says theirs finished is 45″. Now, I just need to figure out how to bind off. and decide if I want to add fringe to the ends.
